Who are you?

My name is Steve Kaplan and I'm a student at Carnegie Mellon University. I've just finished up my undergraduate degree as an Information Systems Major and an accelerated candidate in the Masters in Information Systems Management program.

What does the 'H' stand for?

My middle name is "Hans." I was born in Amsterdam in 1984 and although my parents are both American, they thought that a Dutch middle name would be fitting. Since then I have lived in London, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Why did you make this site?

I made this site so that my friends and colleagues could see what I've been up to lately. More importantly, however, it is a place that recruiters can go and find out more about me. That being said, please feel free to peruse my resumé, read about a few of the projects I've worked on and get in touch with me.

What do you like to do besides making websites about yourself?

Distance running is a sport that I've been consumed with for the past 8 years now. I've been running on the Cross Country and Track teams every year since I've been in high school. I am now finishing up my career as a DIII runner for the Carnegie Mellon team where I've specialized in the 8000m (Cross Country), 5000m and 10000m. Up next: the Marathon.

My other passion is travelling. I spent a semester abroad in Australia my Sophomore year and got to see a good deal of Australia and a little bit of Fiji. Since then I've caught the travel "bug." After having such an amazing experience in Australia, I decided to spend another semester in Singapore. While I was there I got to visit Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Last spring I went on a trip to Costa Rica as well. I've posted some photos on my Flickr account. Up next: Africa, Israel, India.
